Did anyone voted for the new 7 Wonders of the World? I kept forgeting, anyway, they have announced them. They are:

  • Chichén Itzá, Mexico
  • Christ Redeemer, Brazil
  • The Great Wall, China
  • Machu Picchu, Peru
  • Petra, Jordan
  • The Roman Colloseum, Italy
  • The Taj Mahal, India

This global poll has brought about controversies with some hinting of tourism stunt. The Great Wall has managed to stay in the list because of the Internet connection available in the country while Angkor Wat temples in Combodia was not voted due to the poor country.

While the Pyramids of Giza had survived from the ancient list till the voting stage. However, it will be known as the “Eight Wonder“. The money from this will go into restoration of the sites.

I wonder how the finalists were actually selected. What were the criteria for being a “Wonder”? Now, if I have the money to travel to visit those sites.

I don’t know how they come to that list. I’ve asked my chief editor to go to each of these places to investigate, but she thought I was kidding her.

I don’t know either. I think there was a nomination period before the voting started. I’m starting to feel that it could really be a tourists-pulling stunt besides getting sponsors to preserve the sites.
