Providing The Necessary Equipment or Lack Thereof July 5, 2006

I would say that I like it when Mr Angry has mentioned something that managers will never do. That is to provide the IT staff the equipment or hardware or software or whatever it is when requested. 🙂 The managers’ concern is always the bottom line and the top line. Their never ending worries about making sure the profits are earned and that the staff are not increasing the expenditure.

I guess the thing is that technology just advances too fast for the IT staff sometimes. I have a hard time trying to know what is upcoming and what is useful and what is not. It’s not easy to be an IT professional.

Sometimes, I hate it when the managers refuse to let us up the memory of the computer. The computer I’m using at work can be slow when I’m testing out new software since I need to install the server and client portion in the same PC. There is no way I can get a second PC to do my installation and testing. The other side of the door rejected our requests saying that we’re asking for too much. =.= Their users don’t do development for god’s sake, so why the h*ll would they need a computer that is faster than us developers?! I am just asking for more memory, not a brand new PC!

Managers would never understand how much we are suffering. Their job is just to cut cost and increase more profit while using the same system which is donkey years ago.

Installing the client and server on the same machine? Would that work?

Thought usually the client and server are install in different machines. How are you going to test them if they take ages to boot up?

Patience is the key, however, when things get urgent, escalation is the key to get another PC for testing.
